Litter Rig

This is a unique and effective rig. It has been developed to aid in the hooking of carp in a particular situation. This situation being when there is alot of chod littering the bottom. Twigs, leaf's and silt can have a drastic impact on your presentation.

As a carp feeds on this type of bottom it will stir it up which can leave your hook point to masked.

The introduction of free offerings such as hemp or other small particle will only help to exaggerate the problem. For this reason we recommend that you only introduce a few samples of your hookbait with boilies being ideal as they are heavier than other baits. It is important to note that this rig is best used while fishing over extreme debris, for other situations when the litter is not too bad the chod rig will be a better option.

When you fish over this really messy bottom, the closer you can get to the area the better. Ideally you should be able to just drop the rig off of the rod tip, or maybe just flick it a short distance. If you cannot do this then it may mean a cast and this can work against you as casting the rig will make it shoot in to the bottom debris. If this is the case then try to break the cast just before the lead hits the water with your figure on the spool. In this way you can slow everything down at the point of entry.

Assembling the Litter rig

This rig is assembled by firstly tying your hooklink to your hook using the knotless knot. Try to make the length about 8 - 9 inches long. Next cut a length of gardener covert tubing, this tubing is ideal as it is both supple and tungsten coated which means that it will stay nailed to the bottom, which as you will see is the secret of this rig.

Cut to a length of 6 inches. Then pass the hooklink through the tubing and affix to the swivel. Push the tubing back up and over the swivel knot. There should be about an inch of supple hooklink exposed at the hook end. Now thread a boilie on to the hair and your good to go. Use a hook designed for fishing a bottom bait. These are usually longshank with a narrow gape, wide gape hooks are best for pop ups.

As always we recommend that you use a good safety clip system which will help a lost fish lose your lead. Always use desolving foam when fishing over a messy bottom because it will help to slow down the impact of your hookbait hitting the bottom. The best way to attach the pva foam is to first lick down the length of it and then fold the foam around the hook. As the pva dissolves in the water your rig will drop down at a slower rate helping to keep everything above the chod.

Rig foam will also help stop the hook turning and catching on another part of the terminal tackle. Now, imagine for a minute that you have dropped your new rig on to the choddy bottom and it is not long before you see some bubbles emerging as a big old carp comes waddling along. You can now sit back rest assured that your rig will not be wafted about as the fish stirs the bottom with its flanks or fins due to the hooklink being pinned down by the tungsten tubing.
