Pellet baits and Pellet Rigs

Most pellets contain a wide variety of vitamins and minerals as well as proteins and other important additives such as anti-oxidants and trace elements, all of these are extremely beneficial to the carp helping them to remain healthy and grow to their full potential.

Originally used in fish farming and by keepers of ornamental Koi Carp pellets have now found favour amongst many carp fisherman. Pellets now come in a variety of sizes and break down or dissolving rates.

They can be used in many different ways, you could for instance introduce some fast dissolving pellets on to your spot then fish a slower break down rate pellet on you rig over the top. When a fish enters the area all that will be left is a nice bed of broken down pellet with your bait sitting nicely on top. Pellets are mainly made from high protein ingredients used in the fish farming industry.

Using a bait drill gently make a hole through the center of the pellet. Next, tie a loop in the end of your hooklink and pass this through the bait using a baiting needle. Then pass the loop over the other end of the hooklink and gently pull tight to the pellet. Next simply tie on your hook using the knotless knot being careful to create your desired distance from bait to hook. Now just tie on a swivel and your done. A very simple rig which will hopefully make your life just a little easier.

Pellets and bait bands

We don't use bait bands as they are difficult to use and un-reliable, often coming off after just a short period. Our preference is to cut the pellet in half, applying a small amount of superglue on the face of the pellet and then sticking back together trapping the hair in between. You will be amazed how long the pellet stays on!
